My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry: A Novel

No catches, no fine print just unadulterated book loving, with your favourite books saved to your own digital bookshelf. June Book of the Month. Totally and utterly and completely gorgeous in every way, the thought of having to put this book down for even a second is inconceivable.

The first few pages make you smile, make you laugh and charm you, there is a hint though, of the difficulties that seven nearly eight year old Elsa is experiencing. There is a beautiful simplicity to the writing, yet this is not a simple book by any means, there is a complexity to the emotions it evokes and explores.

Set aside some quality time, so you can laugh and cry undisturbed, as the author is able to enchant, to capture your imagination and hold it spellbound from the first to the last page; this is a must have, must read, must treasure book. Liz Robinson. In the beginning they were only to make Elsa go to sleep, and to get her to practise granny's secret language, and a little because granny is just about as nutty as a granny should be.

But lately the stories have another dimension as well. Something Elsa can't quite put her finger on Her grandmother is seventy-seven years old and crazy. She is also Elsa's best, and only, friend. There, everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.

So when Elsa's grandmother dies and leaves behind a series of letters apologizing to people she has hurt, it marks the beginning of Elsa's greatest adventure.

Her grandmother's letters lead her to an apartment building full of drunks, monsters, attack dogs, and totally ordinary old crones-but also to the truth about fairytales and kingdoms and a grandmother like no other. It is a story about life and death and one of the most important human rights: the right to be different. It's a fabulous intertwining of fairy tale fantasy based on the characters' real life experiences. Insightful, delicate and filled with some really moving moments. A brilliant novel from Frederik Backman; a man who understands the power of grandmothers and of forgiveness. A masterpiece. It's an interesting tale but difficult to understand in parts.

I knew it was going to be intriguing by the title alone but this was one fantastic read. If you loved this, you might like these More Books By Fredrik Backman. Share this book. Facebook Twitter Instagram.
